Caring for children with special needs
There are many different health conditions and disorders covered by them term ‘special needs’ and this means that some children with special need will require a lot more care and attention than other
children with special needs. Children may also require completely different types of help and support. For example, a child with a physical disability will require help getting into and out of bed and having a bath, while a child with behavioural problems will be able to do everything around the house independently but will require help controlling their emotions, handling anger and aggression and interacting with other people.
Caring for a child with special needs is often very challenging and for some parents, it becomes a full-time job. Parents of very ill children often have to give up work to look after their children and take them to regular appointments at hospitals and clinics. This can be very difficult, especially if the couple or parent have other children.
