Financial support
If you care for a disabled person, you are a disabled person, you cannot work due to a health condition or you need additional funding for school or further education, you may be eligible for financial support from the government. 
Carer’s allowance
Carer’s allowance is a financial benefit which is designed to help people over the age of 16 who care for a person with an illness or disability for at least 35 hours per week. The weekly carer’s allowance rate is £53.90; you will not be eligible to claim this benefit if you earn more than £100 per week after tax or you are in full-time education (more than 21 hours per week).
Disability living allowance
Disability living allowance is a financial benefit, which is available to people who have a disability and are under the age of 65; the living allowance is designed for people who need additional help around the home. If you are over the age of 65 and you require additional help around the home, you may qualify for the attendance allowance. You can qualify for disability living allowance if you have a physical disability, a sensory disability or a mental disability and you require help from another person.
Incapacity benefit
Incapacity benefit, along with income support paid because of illness or disability and severe disability allowance, is in the process of being replaced by the Employment and Support Allowance. Incapacity benefit is designed to help people who cannot work due to illness. In order to be eligible for financial support you must fit certain criteria, which include not being able to work for at least 28 weeks as a result of an illness or injury.
Student support
If you have special needs, you may qualify for financial support which will help to contribute towards the cost of student fees and accommodation costs. In some cases, you may have your tuition fees paid or your accommodation fees paid or you may have both your tuition and accommodation fees paid. You may also be eligible for a bigger loan from the Student Loan Company. You can also contact the higher education institution to see if they offer bursaries or grants for students with special needs.
Child benefit
Child benefits are available to parents and guardians of children under the age of 16; child benefit payments are designed to help with the cost of bringing up a child.
